2023 BLOCK OF THE MONTH FOR THE QUILT SHOW

We finally get to see the 2023 Block of the Month quilt, designed exclusively for The Quilt Show by Sarah Fielke. Here is HOMEWARD BOUND:

This beautiful design features piecing and applique, luscious fabrics/colors, many by Tula Pink, and is well-divided for ease of completion each month.

Best of All: It's FREE to Star Members of The Quilt Show--a one year subscription is $49 and offers so much bang for your buck. The FREE BOM is a tremendous added bonus. During all of 2023 you will have access to the monthly patterns as they are released--they are not available anywhere else. After 2023, the designer gets the rights to her patterns and you would have to BUY them from her.

I first saw a photo last February, then a few "work in progress" photos in July. In early September I got all of the patterns and started the job of proofreading and verifying each step of the pattern. We are almost done that process now.

My Kit arrived this week but I couldn't wait--I purchased a different background a few weeks ago and was able to work with some Tula Pink fabrics I had on hand. This shows you what mine will look like:

The center little house is 4" finished--I made 3 of them until I as satisfied with it.

As usual, I will do a monthly blog posts with tips and suggestions for each month's tasks. And the Facebook LIVE continues, where we can "chat" in realtime for those who can join me LIVE.

The great news is Sarah will provide several videos to demonstrate her techniques--this will supplement her written instructions.

LOCALS: I am curious to know if there is any interest in a Lecture/Demo class like I have done for the past several BOMs. We would meet 6 times during the year for two hours, and I will show the steps for the patterns that have been released. No sewing in class, just bring your patterns, and your progress. These classes have been very successful for those who participated. If there is enough interest I will set it up and find a place to meet--it might be at my dining room table.

For those not LOCAL, rest assured you have access to me for questions and assistance through the Forum on The Quilt Show and through my blog.

Kits will be available through The Quilt Show--the background fabric was printed exclusively for this quilt and is not available anywhere else. The Kit is beautiful:

Sarah's instructions show you exactly where she used each fabric every month. This is very helpful information for those working with the Kit.

Four years ago I wrote What The Quilt Show Offers You detailing why I think every quilter should join. I learn something from every show.  You get access to more than 14 YEARS of past shows as well as all the new shows that come out every two weeks. I stand by that recommendation today.

At Houston recently I met at least 50 members who came up to me to show me photos of their BOMs or say how much they get out of the blogs/videos. Anyone who spoke to me was offered a chance to see this 2023 BOM, on my phone. I was happy with the positive response.

I hope you will join us on this new Joyful Journey as we make Homeward Bound together.

Let's quilt.

  1. Would hope to be able to meet again and learn as we go. Hard to describe all I "absorb" from The Quilt Show and the group.

  2. Barbara, I'm not doing the 2023 Quilt Show QAL, so not interested in the class. It was helpful this year: even though I got behind a couple of times (baby quilts! and travel), it was helpful to have the accountability to regularly get together as well as benefit from someone who'd already made the quilt. And if it hadn't been for the group, I wouldn't have learned about back stitch applique. Thanks Leila! I also appreciated seeing how you quilted your quilt. I've got to finished some projects that got pushed aside this year, plus the one I'll be starting on the cruise in March. See you then!

  3. Any idea how many yards is required for the background fabric? I'm just now finishing the GPDU working on the top diamond border, so loving this new BOM and curious how many yards for the background.. Love your center Barbara!!

    2. Barbara are you meaning 6 yards for the backing fabric? I'm wanting to substitute the white confetti background fabric for something else, seeing I'll be using fabrics out of my stash for this quilt. Thank you Barbara for all your helpful tips along the way..

  5. Thank you for showing us your background fabric. I don’t like work with white so this block shows me that grey and Tula will look good. Lyn 💞🇦🇺💞
