Let's quilt!
Barbara
Quilting is my peaceful place. I' m working a few things. A scrappy nine patch and a scrappy trip around the world.
ReplyDeleteThecabbageleaf@yahoo.com
Quilting is the way I express my artistic side! I can't draw so I sew. Right now, I just finished an machine appliqued Christmas quilt. Next up is a BOM from my local quilt shop, Pieceful Gathering. Zoom isn't the best way to meet.
ReplyDeleteQuilting truly is my therapy. It is time to think while creating. It also is my connection to many, many friends.
ReplyDeletequilting gives me sanity! it is a stress reducer and a way for my creativity to come through - If I couldn't make quilts I'm not sure what I would be doing
ReplyDeleteQuilting keep me sane (relatively) and has lead me to make so many wonderful quilting friends.
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my stress therapy, it's a creative process. Plus, it makes me happy to give a home grown gift made with love when I can. I am working on UFO's only at the moment, a quilt for my youngest daughter, patriotic pinepple, preparing up 4 other quilts for quilting when I can finally use my Q20.
ReplyDeleteQuilting relieves my anxiety & keeps me sane!

ReplyDeleteQuilting is my way of channeling my grandmother. I like to think she is looking down on me and smiling when I am working on a quilt. I have several UFOs that I am 'working' on. Quilting is peaceful and meditative for me. I, also, have found that quilting connects me with some wonderful people.
ReplyDeleteQuilting brings friends, like you!
ReplyDeleteI am currently trying to learn to use the HQ Sweet Sixteen that I've had for nearly 10 years. I have many quilt tops waiting to be quilted once I've practiced enough that I won't (hopefully) ruin them!
ReplyDeleteI am working on a Pineapple Farm in all shades of purple. This will be a 45th anniversary quilt for my daughters mother-in-law, Mary. My daughter and I hatched this plan while my daughter was undergoing chemo and radiation last year(she was 36). Now that she is in recovery and well, we are working diligently to finish by August. It has served as a long project, but kept our mind occupied. I guess this answers the other question, "What does quilting mean to me" --family time, gifts, distractions, fun, fellowship, memories and laughter, and also solitude and quiet times to think and reflect AND plan for the next quilt, of course! ( I also long-arm, so that has to be worked out soon!).
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my get-away. I’m working on a quilt for my first granddaughter (due in November).
ReplyDeleteI just finished an auction piece for Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, held in Sisters, OR each July. The show will be virtual this year, so the auction is an important fundraiser. Now to get back to my ever growing UFO pile. To answer ‘What does quilting mean to me?’: It is a a way for me to give back to the community, create, and bring joy to someone with a hand made gift and turn off my mind from work and also dream about the next project.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a surprise you have so many followers. I really enjoy reading your articles. Quilting is my happy place and gives me so much joy. I'm working on bucket list quilts and various kits I have bought along the way. No hurry, no pressure, just enjoyment.
ReplyDeleteI found My Joyful Journey through The Quilt Show. I am a charter member and have enjoyed your appearances and tips and hints, etc. I am currently working on the 2020 BOM Afternoon Delight, 2008 BOM Bouquets For A New Day, and The Little Green Quilt my Grandson, Alexander designed. Just 6" blocks but they are green or the fabric was special.
ReplyDeleteQuilting keeps my hands busy and my heart happy. I'm loving all the different scrappy ideas this year of quarantine has brought to us as quilters. Happy quilting!!
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my creative expression and also my therapy. And, thru quilting I have found some very good friends. Right now I am working on a BOM that I have had sitting around for a long time, and quilting UFOs. My husband talked me into getting a long arm. I am surely blessed.
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my way of passing on my heritage to my future grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilting people! I recently moved to
ReplyDeleteColorado and I miss the quilting group! As soon as possible, I will join one up here, and hope that the quilters will be as much fun as Huntsville!
decided to cut up my Jo fabric and make a snail tail quilt.... time will tell..... the sewing machine is at the fix it place..... 10 more days.....
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my identity. It keeps me centered and peaceful. Thank you for all the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my peaceful place. Quilting helps me keep my sanity!!! Working on several projects and getting started on a memory quilt for my SIL.
ReplyDeleteMy quilting and knitting are great substitutes for therapy. The huge stashes I have may not be free, but so worth it. I have my own sewing room and retreat there whenever I need to. Extra tidbit: I was the first charter member on January 1, 2007, when The Quilt Show opened for business!
ReplyDeleteQuilting keeps my hands busy and my heart happy by donating the quilts to others
ReplyDeleteHappiness. It's my thing. Been quilting since I was eight. Over 50 years, before there was quilting fabric or very little.
ReplyDeleteIt is a form of creative expression - a practical useful item created by me. Currently, I am working on my blocks for the Quiltmania Solidarity Project.
ReplyDeleteFor a long time I worked in a very stressful job and quilting was so important that I kept a picture of my sewing room on my desk. I was living 90 miles from NYC when 9-11 happened. We were sent home from work and I immediately went to my sewing room and stayed there. Now I am in my sewing room as food for my soul as I serve as the caregiver for my husband who is slipping more and more into Alzheimer's. This room is my refuge. Currently working on 3 quilts for 3 grandchildren headed to college this fall.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! On over 2800. I’m working on a king size churn dash quilt for my son and his wife. I’m going to quilt it in three sections, then put together as a QAYG.
ReplyDeleteQuilting gives me a creative outlet! I have never been an artist, like my sister, but I can sew and follow a pattern. I am working on the TQS Afternoon Delight and Judy Niemeyer's Raindrops. Thank you for all of your helpful information.

Quilting means many things to me. Right now, I am in treatment for an aggressive breast cancer. The medicines I am on often leave me extremely weak and tired. With the virus out there, I am pretty housebound. When I have some energy, I sew simple four patches for a future quilt. Some days I can sew for 30 minutes, somedays for five minutes. However long, those minutes feed my soul and help me focus on something that gives me joy.
ReplyDeleteI'm tackling some past projects (shop hop from 2018) and even starting some paper piecing blocks for new Halloween quilt. Also doing some quick two yard baby crib sheets as baby gifts.
ReplyDeletemazanec@earthlink.net
My sewing room is my favorite place! I just retired from working at an elementary school for 24 years so I'll be spending more time quilting. Right now I'm quilting a batik quilt for my granddaughter. Then I plan to make a chicken quilt with retro fabric.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Quilting provides a calming and peaceful mindset and is an outlet for creativity. I am working on all those projects that got stacked up before this craziness began.
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my happy place. I live ane breathe quilting. Today I am sorting blues for 2 quilts a Burgoyne Surrounded and a log cabin. It is time to use all the fabric i have held on to.
ReplyDeleteQuilting is a creative stress reliever. Quilting produces something to be remembered by, something to gift on special occasions, or something to use for warmth on a bed. I’m currently finishing a Storm at Sea lap quilt, a Christmas Irish Chain, a Lori Holt “Apples” pattern and a UFO kaleidoscope pattern. Also following Jacquelynne Steve’s Silver Linings Sew Along. Lynnasc98@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteQuilting is carrying on a part of my grandmother. Today it also reminds me of special times with dear friends.

DeleteI started quilting 40 years ago. The friends I have made in the quilting community are beyond compare. Quilting has given me the opportunity to be creative, and provide warmth for family and friends. Also, quilting has provided a way for me to give back to my community through quilt donations to places like women's shelters, childrens hospital NICUs and foster care programs.
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my stress free zone. I enjoy creating.
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my place to explore, to stretch myself and try new things. For example right now I'm working on a paper pieced project that will yield a tessellation design. It's exciting to discover I can do new things!)
ReplyDeleteI do wonder what I would be doing if I didn't my quilting . I have met many wonderful quilters along the way. Quilt weekly with 2 groups, belong to 2 guilds. I have lost some very good friends over the years but also have many fond memories of our times together. Working on UFO's from over the years but also trying new projects.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on 2 Christmas quilts and I found Sun Bonnet
ReplyDeleteblocks (50s and 60s fabric)at a local 2nd hand store that I'm putting together for another quilt.
I quilt for the simple joy it brings being creative with my own hands and being able to share that gift with others through our quilt ministry. Amityquilter2008 at gmail dot com.
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my sanity and salvation. My adult children have medical issues and some days the only way to get through is to go downstairs, close the door and sew. I'm so grateful to my local quilt shop for having online shopping and zoom classes, so I could pick up a red, white and blue quilt kit to work on!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 2800 followers. At the moment I am working on the TQS BOM Afternoon Delight and finishing the border on a quilt Second Chance designed by Sharon Blackmore and done as a mystery quilt on her Facebook Group Prairie Quilt Militia. Quilting is my passions. It helps me to relax and regroup from life's hectic busyness.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on so many followers! I so enjoy your posts. You have helped so many. I find quilting - esp applique & hexies so relaxing
ReplyDeleteI like for my hands to be busy creating beautiful things. It is peaceful & enjoyable. I'm presently working on Green Tea & Sweet Beans & Maggie Maguire's garden. Angelulrich@gmail.com
Quilting has changed through my years as I have grown and experience life. In this latest life journey, quilting centers me--allows me to calm my soul and heart. Quilting ties me to my loved ones that sewed and quilted through the generations. I don't know how their "threads" healed the trials they experienced through their lives but I feel connected as I quilt.
ReplyDeleteQuilting has given me lifelong friends, a creative outlet, a way to connect to my Grandmother and, a way to give back through my finished pieces.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I enjoy reading your blog! I'm working on putting together some 1940ish families of orphan blocks that I've been meaning to do something with for more than 40 years. Finally... it's time! There are Dresden plates in two sizes, a handful of double wedding ring "footballs", and a baggie filled with hand-basted orange peel units. And I have a small box fabrics of the same vintage to work from, too. I'm hopeful that I can put everything together into something good! I'm having fun! terrynixonmmail@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 2800 followers, Barbara!
ReplyDeleteI am trying to finish up UFOs this year--mostly bed sized. Currently sewing borders onto my 22 year-old flower garden block quilt. Next in the queue is a Pam Buda quilt I started at a retreat with her 6 years ago. I am also machine quilting my youngest son's college t-shirt quilt. He graduated about 6 years ago, too. I have way too many of those old projects laying around.
Quilting is my creative outlet, which provides mental therapy. It sustains me through stressful times, and brings me joy in the best of times.
In general, quilting is my go-to to create (whether simple or complicated), touch fabric, see color and pattern, and work with my hands (and not get muddy). Quilting has introduced me to some of my very best life-long friends. During the plague, quilting has been my afternoon escape to hand piece tiny houses ~ one satisfying house at a time. shanson.548@gmail.com
ReplyDeletequilting is "my" place in a very busy family of grown kids and grandchildren. it's where i can find beauty and joy and everything good. i'm now working on a quilt learning paper piecing from the book petels and stems and am getting slowly finished with hold on to your heart from esther eliu, as well as several small children's blankets.
ReplyDeleteQuilting continues to be a way I can still "connect" with my mom and grandmother who loved to quilt as much as I do. Quilting lets me express myself artistically while providing a tangible, useful and hopefully beautiful product that I can share or keep. My quilts will help me be remembered in the future. I can't imagine my children and grandchildren not thinking of me each time they pull one of my quilts over them. Oh...and did I mention quilting is a great stress-reliever. It sure beats punching a pillow! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your followers! Thanks for all the inspiration and patterns you share!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute 4 patch quilt.
Thanks for all you have done for the quilting community. You are a favorite teacher of the Needle Chasers Quilt Guild. Keep inspiring us.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barbara. I love your guild and am happy to come back any time.
DeleteQuilting is my connection to my roots (my grandmothers and mother were quilters.) It is also my outlet to express myself and a way to give of myself to others.
ReplyDeleteI have just found your blog :) Yay! I had wanted to start to quilt for a long time, but life happened. Growing up with a basket quilt make by my grandmother, I had always wanted to learn. Last weekend I attended my first quilt retreat, virtually! I'm hooked! I have to admit I might have hemmed some of my husband's pants in the retreat. shhhh. Currently working on a cheat cloth to practice hand quilting and machine quilting in the ditch, even thought the "ditch" may not be there. Baby Steps! I love your blog! Now to sneak some time in between to read your nuggets of wisdom. ( Along this journey my 12 year old son will also be learning, as I learn from his "no fear" approach to life! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis makes my heart happy. You might look at the Tutorial "How to Make a Quilt in 5 Easy Lessons"from

Welcome!
I use quilting for stress relief - I love to spend time in my sewing room and also working on hand sewing projects in the car. If I have to stay away from fabric for too long I can feel the stress grow - but give me a half hour a day and I can deal with most of what life sends my way!
ReplyDeleteI have been working on a village quilt. It's helped me thru this quarantine.
ReplyDeleteQuilting helps keep my mind off my troubles. I also love using my hands to create something to put out into the world.
ReplyDeleteQuilting is my happy place. I dream, I create, I execute the design. I do all parts of the process. My only problem is there are not enough minutes in the day to o everything that I dream.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the blog stats.
Bravo! Bravo! Perfect little quilt to be given away on Flag Day! Congratulations on reaching such a wonderful milestone. You are an amazing quilter & teacher.
ReplyDeleteCurrently I am hand quilting a vintage double wedding ring quilt, top bought about 9 years ago at an antique shop. I am piecing a Ribbon Star quilt by machine. My take along project is 60 degree star blocks hand pieced and I have 8 baby quilts to machine quilt before the end of the month, a charity project for our church. Quilting is a way for me to connect with my grandmother, who is long gone, but left a great legacy of quilts. I love your work and thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us.
