Out with the Old, In with the New

What better time than the present to get started with something new?  I've followed quite a few quilt-related blogs for a couple years now and have wanted to jump in.  The blog still doesn't look the way I envision it should, but that will come.   I'll write about making quilts, teaching others how to make quilts, going to Long Beach and Houston, guild activities, and lots of other quilt-inspired stuff.

It's the last day of 2011 and I made a quilt top yesterday, for a new class I'll teach in the spring.  It will be Utility quilted--often called Big Stitch-- and I am eager to get the back pieced and the quilt basted, so I can start the quilting.  A photo will be coming soon.

My other life is about to interfere with my quilting life:  I'm starting my 32nd year with H&R Block as a tax professional.  That means I go back to work full time starting next week.  That really cuts into my quilting time.  And my son is getting married March 31, 2012--not the best timing for me, but it's not about me, is it?

The past two weeks I've rearranged my studio--the largest room in our house--and now I can't find things--they're not where they used to be.  And I've purged some stuff, but haven't started on the 21 foot closet yet--that will wait until June, I'm afraid.

    I'm here! Love what you've done in your studio - have to find a reason to stop by to see it in person. :) Is that a "real" sewing chair? I'm looking to find a good chair, but not sure where to start looking - wondering if a regular office chair will suffice. forgot about the thingey you sit on, too - did you tell me that was good for exercising your core? Balance? (I forget!) See you soon! Michele

    Michele, I took a studio design class in Houston with Lois Hallock who wrote "Creating Your Perfect Quilting Space". She strongly recommends the Heavenly Sewing Chair and had one we could sit on--yep, it's great! www.heavenlyseating.com Not inexpensive but wonderful. I sit on a Dyna-Disc, easy to find on Amazon.com, etc. and it helps with core stability. My chair is a basic office chair from Staples or Office Depot, nothing special. Come by any time.

    A new blog for the new year! Looks like a great start. I will follow to keep up with what you are doing. I love the studio - mine never looks that clear. Maybe I need to work on that for a while!!

    Susan, it took hours to get the studio ready for these shots! It may never look this organized again. I still feel like things aren't quite right but I'm sure I'll get used to it! Thanks for joining me here!!

    Your resolutions made me chuckle, especially the "lather, rinse, repeat" statement. Love your sense of humor. WOW! Great studio! This will be a terrific blog!
