When I saw the Just Takes 2 project less than 2 weeks ago I knew I wanted to do it this year. A wide variety of blocks will be published via email every 2 weeks throughout the year. This is a tribute to the Infinite Variety Red and White Quilts exhibit that was held in New York City March 2011. Brenda Papadakis of Dear Jane fame and Gay of Sentimental Stitches are the powers behind this project and both have great blogs too. There will be "name that block" contests and other fun.
Here are my first 6 blocks. I am using a variety of reds and whites and look forward to doing all the blocks.
To see what lots of other people have been working on, check out Judy L's blog Patchwork Times.
Have a great Monday--let's quilt!
Barbara
nice blocks. I love reds..
ReplyDeleteThose reds really pop. Looking great.
ReplyDeleteA lovely start!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw what you are doing I had to check it out. Love Just Takes 2 and signed up. Can't wait to work along with you. Thank you Barbara for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look great! I can't believe how much I'm already looking forward to the next set of directions.
ReplyDeleteLooking good!! I'm doing mine in blue and white, but I might be regretting that - the red and whites look so nice! I'm glad so many people are doing it. We'll all keep each other on track!
ReplyDeleteI love your subtle variety of reds. It gives the quilt a bit of depth without being busy. I've been watching this one but haven't jumped in yet. If only I can cross a few things off the list first....
ReplyDeleteWhat a great start to a wonderful quilt !
ReplyDeleteHi Barb, Thanks for stopping by my Quilt History blog today. I am curious; did that huge Red & White Quilt Exhibit in NYC inspire you to begin this quilt by any chance? As a quilt historian, I am just wondering if future quilt historians will see an increase in Red & White quilts being made beginning in 2011. There are so many beautiful reds to choose from today! http://karenquilt.blogspot.com/2011/03/new-york-celebrates-red-and-white.html
ReplyDeleteKaren, absolutely the Red and White exhibit inspired me and Many others. While I didn't get to see it live I downloaded it to my IPad and have enjoyed it. I believe historians of the future will mark a "red and white revival" in the second decade of the 21st century. This project, Just Takes 2, is designed by two bloggers/designers because they did visit the exhibit and wanted to make ALL the quilts so decided a year-long sampler project was the next best thing.
ReplyDeleteAnother revival I am noticing is hand piecing hexagons. Bonnie Hunter may have started it with her very tiny hexie project she has been working on for a couple years--it's her travel project so many people have seen it as she teaches all over. Other folks are starting to show hexies they are working on. Have you seen this resurgence of a very old process?
