Thimbles!

Bonnie Hunter, at Quiltville.com, has a Thimble Link-Up Monday--all about thimbles:  Thimble Link Up Monday.  Here are some of my thimbles--I had to hunt in lots of places to find them all:

Some are leather, some plastic, some for the underneath hand, some for the top, even one for the thumb--that's the yellow one.  I even had the same small plastic box that Bonnie showed in her post.  Quilters are such gadget/storage people!

Here are my favorites from the bunch.  The center one is my newest, a TJ Lane thimble will an amethyst gem stone.  It is beautiful.  My most used is the one on the left, I have several of these in different sizes.  And I really wanted to love the one on the right;   it is a sterling silver ThimbleLady thimble.  Liuxin Newman is the ThimbleLady and she quilts with the side of her finger, saying it will prevent hand and wrist problems. I've tried it some but didn't get the hang of it.   Still, it is beautiful and feels good on my hand.   I love to hand quilt so these are important tools to me.  I hope my someday grandchildren will love these as I do.

I tried to get a shot of that newest one--believe me when I say it's HARD to take a photo of your right hand with your left hand.  Sorry it was just too fuzzy to use.

And, BTW, I love the feel of the Roxanne thimbles too.  They are heavier and sometimes that's just what I want, like when I'm doing Utiltiy Quilting with Perle Cotton.

What is your favorite thimble?

  1. PS--looking at Bonnie's blog again, I know I have several more thimbles somewhere--that leather one with the coin in it, yep, I've got one! And lots more, just like Bonnie, and you, too, I'll bet!

  2. I've got many of those thimbles. Its funny how we each are drawn to different favorites. I have one from Alaska that I can't stand, yet, in one blog the lady loves hers.
    Just like shoes, I suppose.
Thank you for sharing your collection!

  3. Mine is the one on the left in the second picture. I have a hard time finding them, but there was one vendor in Houston this year that had them and they were only $5!!! I bought two so I have extras if something happens to the one I have now.

  4. I have a very hard time wearing thimbles ... my fingers are so tiny! I have an open, adjustable one and a small regular one and that blue one that you have, that I tend to wear the most. I did try a beautiful, fancy one at the Knoxville show several years ago, and I so wanted it, but I didn't get it. Ah well ... there's time!! It was fun getting to peek at your collection! :)

  5. Use the one on the left for my upper hand that pushes the needle through (that's my left hand). Use just a plain old cheapy thimble for the bottom hand to keep my index finger on right hand from getting pricked. I wear out several thimbles when I am hand quilting a project!

    1. You certainly do! You must have the strongest fingers in the world! Who else could wear holes in metal thimbles??

  6. Do you know the make of the one on the left that you use the most? Looks interesting.

  8. I've tried several times to use a thimble but have had no success. Perhaps it's like that "driving with the left foot". Practice, practice, practice....boulder, boulder, boulder......
