Recently, I had the pleasure of teaching for the Lakeview Quilters Guild in the Houston area.

Monday night was the Lecture, Time Management for Quilters. There are always good comments afterwards and emails continue to come in when quilters try some of the tips they hear at that lecture. Some students showed off their class blocks:

Secret Stars

In March I will be teaching "Secret Stars" to the Lakeview Quilters Guild in the Houston area. This is a great block and my samples show two completely different settings, a simple On-Point setting and a more complex setting that has BOTH on-point and straight set blocks:

To prepare the Supply List I first like to write the handout so I don't forget anything students should bring. Because I made these quilts quite some time ago, I found it prudent to make a small sample of the complex set so I could double-check all the math--and there was a lot of math in that setting.

Here is the small sample top  I created:

I will give it to my guild contact when I meet up with her in Houston in about two weeks. This gives potential students a chance to see the class project "in the cloth". I just hope they realize they can make the simpler setting and still have a beautiful quilt.

All of my current workshops are listed on the Workshops Tab at the top of this page. Perhaps you'll see a class you would like to take. My schedule has a few openings in it for 2020, I'd love to visit you. We really have a lot of fun and learn a lot in class.

A Little Bit of This

and a little bit of that.

Here is a small class sample of Secret Stars, a class I'll be teaching for the Lakeview Quilters of Houston in March 2019. This sample top will be turned over to them at Quilt Festival in Houston so their members can see the real quilt design, not just photos:

The 6 month Long Time Gone class is coming along--we have now had 4 sessions. A few of the students are getting those sections together:

There is much excitement about Sizzle--the 2019 Block of the Month from The Quilt Show--read more about it here and here--the Fabric Introduction. While I am making the Cool Kit version, I just might have to use my own fabrics for the Warm version. Here is my quick fabric pull for that one:

 For local people I will be helping you select your own palette if you like at Huntsville Sew and Vac, Saturday December 1, 9:30-12:30--print the Fabric Introduction for either the Cool or Warm Kit---whichever is closest to the fabrics you want to use. Bring fabrics you already have if you want to use them, and I will help you round out your palette so you are ready to go January 1 when the first block pattern appears. It will be a great year of learning lots of techniques while we make this very dynamic quilt, designed by Becky Goldsmith.

Still a good bit to get done before I go to Houston--class supply lists for 2019 classes, locally and away from home, quite a few gifts to make, and planning for a brand new quilt.
